Kuala Lumpur: Badminton World Federation (BWF) have confirmed Lee Chong Wei’s participation at the New Zealand Open Gold Grand Prix event that will be held from August 1st to August 6th at the North Shore Events Centre in Auckland.
The tournament was originally scheduled in March, but was postponed due to conflict with the Adele live concerts.
This would be Lee Chong Wei’s first New Zealand Open in his career. However, he and his wife visited Auckland on their honeymoon as guests of SKYCITY – a hotel/casino and event centre in the Central Business District of Auckland. He will use the New Zealand as a warm-up tournament for the 2017 BWF World Championships of badminton will be held August 21–27 at Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland.
Meanwhile, the New Zealand Open could also be a good test for him and his coach- Misbun Sidek to understand the depth and breadth of their relationship after Sidek officially rejoined Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) three days ago.
